Guest Writing on Allison Cafe: A Non-Baker’s Cupcake Quest

Last weekend I experienced my annual “Gotta make my husband’s homemade birthday cake” dilema. This request is bestowed upon me and usually includes which specific recipe I am supposed to make. Past years were carrot cake with avocado frosting, tres leches and some other anti-Betty Crocker ideas. This year my husband graciously asked for kid [...]

Adopt-A-Stream Comes to Fallsgrove

This past winter I was very bothered by all the trash in the Fallsgrove neighborhood trails and streams. I found a Rockville city trash program similar to the I Love A Clean San Diego which I had participated in. The following is an article I wrote for my neighborhood newsletter after my 1st “organized” trash [...]

Farfar came for a visit!

March 7-9, 2008
Farfar (norwegian for grandfather or literally father father) swung into town this past weekend thanks to work obligations. He got here Saturday night and gave a talk on Monday. We basically had one full day when pieced together. We had a great dinner Saturday night at his hotel and Sunday we went [...]

Telemark Ski Lessons at Tryvann

March 1 – 2, 2008
Dave had a joint birthday party with his friend Jan Hendrik back in January. They both received a telemark ski lesson, rental and lift ticket package from their friends. They’ve both wanted to learn how to telemark for a while, so they were both excited about the package. This past weekend [...]

A Ski Weekend in Trysil.

January 11 – 13, 2008

Last weekend we took our 1st “vacation” getaway with Bennett! It was surprisingly easy with some minor adjustments of our lifestyle. Our friends Katie and Kevin, who both work for Deloitte & Touche, got their company’s cabin for the weekend. After work on Friday we rented a car and drove [...]

Martha Stewart Eat Your Heart Out.

I am going crazy with crafty projects lately. It’s sickening. No “nesting” feelings for me like I’ve read about in maternity books (cleaning, organizing). But, I have spent my free time waiting for the baby doing LOTS of crafts.
My latest creation this week was sewing baby overalls with my German girlfriend Anne. She had [...]

Beer Adventure: Bamberg Germany

The following article was submitted to a beer newsletter by Dave. This is a detailed beer log of our trip.

Lillehammer Fun: Dog Sledding & Skiing!

March 1- 4, 2007
We had a fantastic weekend visit to Lillehammer. Dave’s parents, Jeff & Erica, flew in for a short visit and we didn’t waste a second!
THURSDAY
Erica got into Oslo on Thursday and we walked around and went to dinner. We have now learned that restaurant reservations are a must for Olso. We had [...]

Downhill Skiing at Norefjell

On Saturday, we went “slalom” skiing at the Norefjell site of the alpine events in the 1952 Oslo Winter Olympics. It’s a 2 hour bus ride from Oslo. We found a package deal for bus transportation (Skiexpressen) and lift ticket. There were about 12 of us who went for the day.

Happy Birthday David!

Adventure to Fjellvang Hytta, Oslo Nordmarka
We had an awesome weekend cross country skiing to a hut in the woods. We booked one night stay at the Norwegian Trekking Association’s (DNT) hut. They are usually maintained fairly well and are open all seasons for outdoor activities. They have over 400 hundred huts all over Norway.
Saturday
The morning [...]
